Salvete, omnes!

Junior Classical League at Battle Ground Academy!

Junior Classical League (Latin Club) is an honor society which supports the study of and public interest in all things Greek and Latin.

Membership is open to current middle and upper school Latin students as well as any who have previously had two or more years of Latin. Please join!

Meet in my classroom (Middle School Academic Building Room 29, on the end near Fine Arts) each 2nd and 4th Friday. Be aware that I also sponsor Linguistics Cohort which meets at MS 29 on 1st and 3rd Fridays.

The club activity fee is $10, which should cover annual membership dues for two classical honor societies, TJCL (Tennessee Junior Classical League) and NJCL (National Junior Classical League).

JCL competitions at the state and national conventions: Contests often include field day events such as chariot racing (with people as horses), toga relays, and javelin toss. There are performance contests (vocal, drama, oratory), art contests, costume contests, and lots of different kinds of knowledge based competitions on grammar, vocabulary, mythology, history and culture.

See here for a fun video about the TJCL (Tennessee Junior Classical League) convention to give you a rough idea of what it's like. This year's convention is in Memphis. We will likely have to miss class Thursday afternoon (April 14), if not the whole day, and then all day Friday (April 15). We would start back around noon Saturday.
